A small crack in a windshield will turn into a larger one within days or weeks. Heat and moisture expand and contract inside the crack, and vibrations make that small chip spread quickly. Replacement is expensive, but chips or cracks smaller than a dollar bill can be repaired at home using an adhesive injection system.
Instructions
- 1
Clean the surface of the windshield crack with paper towels and glass cleaner, removing all grease and dirt from around and inside of the crack.
2Thoroughly dry the windshield until it squeaks. Park the car in a garage where the temperature is around 70 degrees F.
3Peel away the backing from the plastic repair disc in your repair kit (available at any auto parts store) and place it over the crack or chip. Rub this into place to secure it to the windshield.
4Connect the syringe to the plastic adapter piece. Pull back the syringe plunger. This will pull all the air inside the crack or chip out and into the syringe, while the adhesive material inside the syringe is pushed into the crack itself. Let this stand for at least 30 minutes, or until the hole is completely filled and the material dried.
