Tyres for 308THP

Thursday, May 7, 2015

First batch of 308THPs were fitted with CSC3 225/45 R17 tyres. These tyres are superb on wet condition. Its directional stability is exceptional. Very responsive on curves - wet or dry. A little bit noisy and ride harshness but WELL worth it!
I love these tires. I have been driving on them for the last five months covering more than 10,000km. The car feels livelier and more sure-footed especially on wet. I cant decide if I should say it feels like Im riding on rails or if its glued to the road. Whichever it is, the car feels very stable and responsive.

Continental has won a coveted award from the UKs no1 modified car magazine, "FastCar". Announced in the magazine, Continentals ContiSportContact 3 took the top spot in the Best for Safety category.

"FastCar" Magazine also commented:
Safe is the name of the game with Continental Tyres and their wet weather performance is the absolute best. The ContiSportContact 3 tyre is focused on serving up awesome handling for powerful performance cars. We like Continental tyres a lot. The ContiSportContact 3 is the ideal choice for drivers who want the highest levels of safety without compromising on performance. In terms of safety, the use of a supple third generation silica compound allows for supreme wet braking performance. A high proportion of rubber on the outer shoulder and a stiff asymmetrical tread pattern ensures optimum performance handling.
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric is probably the most logical alternative to CSC3. Just like the asymmetric CSC3, the "asymmetric" in the Eagle F1 Asymmetric name describes the tires tread design and internal structure - both of which are designed to enhance performance in dry and wet conditions. Having three wider channels it looks like CSC3 performs better on wet than GY F1, but the later should be quiter, more comfortable and lasts longer
The tread uses carbon black for dry traction, silica for wet traction and a new generation of polymers to optimize tread stiffness. This compound is molded into an asymmetric tread design with wide, solid outboard shoulder blocks to increase cornering traction while a continuous center rib improves high speed stability and an open inboard tread pattern disperses water. Wide circumferential grooves also allow water to flow from between the tire footprint and road.

1157 LED for DRL

Thursday, April 23, 2015

If any of you guys want to replace existing Day Running Lights (DRL) 1157 tungsten-filamen bulbs on your Peugeot 308 turbo with anything similar to THESE LEDs ... forget it. Dont waste your time and money. Do not buy!

1157 LED conversion light bulbs similar to THESE are not durable to be used as DRL on your Peugeot 308 Turbos.

So far I had tested SIX different sets of 1157 LEDs... ... and ALL of them kaput with at least one LED burned within one week of usage! I even assembled em by myself. Click HERE to see how I did. Probably those LEDs can be used at full brightness for short duration such as turn-indicator and brake lights only - not for extended use like the DRLs. Special LEDs and electronic circuitry are required for extended use at full brightness. It was very difficult and expensive to buy aftermarket Audi-like LED DRL before y2010.

Fortunately, as a result of European Union Directive coming into force on the Feb 7th 2011 all new passenger cars and small delivery vans throughout the EU will have to come equipped with daytime running lights. Since then, the right LED arrays for DRLs could be found easily at reasonable price.

Click HERE to find which one is suitable for you. I prefer W212-like LED arrays. By installing them upside down, the LED arrays match and flow with the curves on the front part of the 308...

These new DRL LED arrays are a lot brighter than the super bright 1157 LEDs.

At the moment I use both - to compare their durability.

When Is It Time For Brake Repair

The brakes are probably the most important part of your car. Can you imagine what youd do without them? Actually, its probably not a good idea to imagine that. Instead, lets look at some ways to keep them running just right so they dont leave you rolling down a hill somewhere. The good thing is that theyll let you know way before they wear out completely. Here are the signs that you need brake repair.

No Grabbing!

How To Replace Brake Pads

When you step on the brakes, it should be a smooth stopping motion. They apply the same pressure to both the front and back axles. However, if you step on the pedal and your car lurches to a stop, this is a sign that somethings wrong. One of the main warning signs that you need brake repair is when the brakes are "grabbing," giving you an uneven feeling when you stop the car. It means that the pads have worn thin, or it could be that they were installed incorrectly in the first place. There can be other causes, but this is a simple thing for a trained mechanic to fix.

When Is It Time For Brake Repair?

Screechy Sounds

Basically, your brakes shouldnt make any noise at all when you apply them. If you hear a screeching sound every time you stop, this could be a sign that you need brake repair. That is, it "could" be a sign because its not 100% certain that theyve gone bad. What it often means is that youve got metal against metal causing the screeching noise. This means that the pads have worn out and youll need to get them replaced. It also might not be a problem. Some new cars have squeaky brakes until theyre driven for a while. If you hear some screechy sounds, its a good idea just to have them checked out.

Wheel Wiggling

Another sign is that your steering wheel wiggles when you apply the brakes. What effect do the brakes have on your steeling wheel? A wiggly wheel is usually a sign that your rotors are bad. The rotors are the big discs that your brakes clamp onto when you step on the pedal. As you can imagine, its just as important for them to work properly as the brakes themselves. If youve got this problem, the rotors probably need to be replaced. You can have them tuned up, but this will only temporarily solve the problem.

Visual Inspection

You can tell you need brake repair by the feel and sound, but you can also look at them yourself and see if they need to be fixed. When looking at them, the pads should be about a quarter of an inch away from the rotor. If theyre too close or too far, you might want to have them looked at by a mechanic. It may just take a simple bit of tweaking to get them fixed.

Brake repair is a really important part of driving a car. Luckily, the brakes will give you plenty of warning signs before they go out and leave you cruising down the highway with no way to stop. Pay attention to these warning signs, get them fixed when you need to, and youve got nothing to worry about regarding your cars ability to stop itself when it needs to.

Wot izit for

Tuesday, April 21, 2015

A reader sent uncle.D an email asking...
"...could you kindly have a look at the picture i sent to you. I noticed there is some missing screw or part (blue circled). Im just guessing here. If your 308 also having that, its nothing then..."
It is going to be another big issue if AW forumers know there is something missing. Probably someone will start a new thread encouraging 308 owners to storm Nassim HQ demanding for the missing part..... he heeee!!

Well, here it is. Guess for yourselves what is it for.
If u ppl found it is not there, try to search here lak
It is a multi-purpose lug - can be used for lifting the engine, towing the car and can also be used as a weapon if know how. The red ribbon is to remind the lug should be removed after use.

Cutout Tools for Automobile Windshields

The car windshield is one of the most important protective components on a car. A windshield should be replaced if it has become scratches, cracked or chipped. Switching your windshield is not an easy task; however, using the specific tools designed especially for working on your windshield---such as suction cups, windshield blades and a windshield sealant cutter---will help simplify the process.

Suction Cup Windshield Holder

Windshield suction cups are used to hold the glass when youre removing it. A suction cup is a instrument made out of ruber that produces a vacuum on one side and has a handle on the other. Typically two or more suction cups are needed when youre removing a windshield. (see reference 2)

Windshield Knife

A windshield knife is used to cut through glass. It has a tempered steel blade on one side and a thick handle on the opposite side and is designed to cut through glass with ease. (see reference 1)

Windshield Sealant Cutter

A windshield sealant cutter is a hand-held tool used to remove sealant that exists around the cars windshield. This tool requires a pneumatic air compressor in order to be operated. It uses a thick specially designed hard steel blade and is the quickest and most efficient way to cut through windshield sealant. (see reference 2)
