Dodge Neon Rear Door Window Installation

A damaged rear door window in your Dodge Neon can be a serious issue depending on the extent of the damage. If the window is broken it may lead to someone cutting their hands on the shards of glass. A damaged window should be replaced immediately before next taking your vehicle out on the road. You can purchase a replacement window to install in your Neon from your local auto store.

Instructions

    1

Place a tarp or old bed sheet underneath the door that has the broken window to collect pieces of glass that may fall.

    2

If the window is heavily damaged, use a hammer to gently tap loose sections of glass from the door, while wearing thick work gloves and safety glasses.

    3

Open up the door fully and use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws which hold the interior door panel in place. Lift the door panel away from the door and move it to one side.

    4

Use a hex wrench to remove the hex bolts which attach the broken window to the window regulator. Put on a pair of protective gloves and carefully lift the window out of the window frame.

    5

Place a new window in to the door frame. Align the bottom edge of the window with the top bracket of the window regulator. Install the hex bolts to secure both together. Reattach the door panel by placing it on to the door and reattaching the mounting screws.

Marathon Fuel Consumption

It was a night-marathon (round trip) to and fro Kelantan during recent Hari Raya covering a total distance of more than 1100km.

The average fuel consumption on RON95 for the entire trip was 7.1liter/100km (14km/liter). Not too bad for an aged marathoner I think. If you are a sprinter probably your Peugeot THP would consume at least 50% more fuel!

How to Change Automobile Brake Pads

How to Change Automobile Brake Pads

Replacing brake pads is a straight forward procedure that anyone with a set of basic tools can perform. All that you need is an hour, some attention to detail, and the right tools for the job. Replace the brakes on your car in no time following these instructions.

Instructions

    1

Apply the parking brake and chock the rear wheels with bricks or blocks. This prevents the car from rolling backward while you jack it up. Using the lug wrench, loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels. Do not remove the lug nuts yet.

    2

Slide the jack under the front of the car, positioning it under the front cross member. Jack the car up until you can place jack stands under the cross member, right by the control arm. Remove the lug nuts and wheels from the vehicle.

    3

Use the large screwdriver to pry the brake pads away from the rotor. Then, still using the large screwdriver with the tip against the pad, pry the caliper piston into the caliper body. You will have to do this on the inboard and outboard pads. Brake fluid might drip from the master cylinder but this is normal.

    4

Inspect the brake rotor for gouges. If you find gouges you replace the rotors. If the rotors look good, use the small flat-bladed screwdriver to remove the two clips from the slides that hold the pads in place. Slide the pins out carefully. Watch for the anti-rattle clips because they can fly out.

    5

Remove and inspect the brake pads from the caliper. The pads should have brake pad material on them with no signs of rubbing against the rotor. If there are signs of rubbing you should replace your rotors.

    6

Inspect the new pads to ensure that they are the same as the old pads. Put anti-seize compound on the sides of the pads to help them slide smoothly in the caliper. You should also put anti-seize on the back of the pad then install the shim and put anti-seize on the back of the shim. Put the anti-rattle clip on the top of the pad and put Anti-Seize in the curves where the slide pins will go.

    7

Carefully slide the outboard pad, shim and anti-rattle clip into the caliper and put the two slide pins in. Then install the inboard pad, shim and anti-rattle clip and slide the slide pins all the way through the caliper. Make sure the brake material is facing the rotor. Once the caliper pins are fully seated, install the retaining clips.

    8

Put the wheels and lug nuts back on the car. Tighten the lug nuts only finger tight at this point. Jack the car up enough to remove the jack stands, then lower it completely. Torque the lug nuts to specification. If you dont know the specification, read through your cars owners manual, or ask a local auto parts store.

    9

Press on the brake pedal a few times to regain firmness in the pedal. When the brake pedal is firm, remove the wheel chocks and disengage the parking brake. Take the car around the block for a short test drive to test the brakes to make sure they are working properly.

How to Replace a Rear Brake Rotor on a 1996 Explorer

How to Replace a Rear Brake Rotor on a 1996 Explorer

If you have noticed track marks or prominent wear on your brake rotor, it may be to replace it. Squealing brakes or a soft response when you press on the brake pedal are other clues that replacement may be in order. Replacing the rotors on the rear brakes on a 1996 Ford Explorer is a task that the average owner can perform. Its relatively quick and just takes the right tools and a little elbow grease.

Instructions

    1

Put on a filtered face mask and safety glasses before you begin operating on your brakes, since brake pad dust may contain small amounts of asbestos.

    2

Jack up the rear end of your 1996 Ford Explorer, place it on jack stands, and remove the wheel. Inspect the rotor for track marks or prevalent wear to confirm it does indeed need replacing.

    3

Remove the rear brake caliper by loosening and removing the mounting bolts with a socket wrench. Lift the caliper gently from the caliper mount, paying extra attention to avoid damage to the brake fluid line.

    4

Remove the brake pads and hardware. Loosen and remove the rear brake caliper mounting bolts with a socket wrench or another appropriate tool. Remove the caliper mount gently from the vehicle.

    5

Remove the retaining screw from the disc mounting hole and tap the rotor with a rubber mallet to release any rust buildup between it and the bearing hub. Lift the rotor away from the vehicle with both hands, being careful not to drop it. If the rotor is extremely rusted, turn and pull simultaneously while applying more force.

    6

Clean the mating surface on the wheel hub and place the new rotor into position. Reconstruct the brake system in the reverse order. Put the wheel back on and check the rotor on the opposite side (often brake systems wear quite evenly).

How to Change the Rear Brake Shoes on a Lincoln Mark V

How to Change the Rear Brake Shoes on a Lincoln Mark V

Changing the rear brake shoes on a Lincoln Mark V requires time, concentration and patience. Though the process itself is not overly complicated, the steps required must be followed precisely or you could damage your brake system or even injure yourself if the system fails while youre operating your car. Consequently it is not recommended that you change the brake shoes on your Lincoln without first consulting a knowledgeable mechanic.

Instructions

    1

Crack the lug nuts on the rear wheel of your Lincoln before lifting onto a jack. This will enable you to use the pressure of the tire on the ground under the weight of the car for leverage as you try to loosen the nut.

    2

Lift your Lincoln with a 5 ton jack and support its rear end with two jack stands.

    3

Remove the lug nuts from the rear wheel youre working on first and then remove the tire from the brake drum.

    4

Spray the brake drum with penetrating oil. Penetrating oil is a low-viscosity lubricant that allows you to unscrew rusted or otherwise stuck bolts and nuts. It can be purchased at a local car parts store.

    5

Remove the return spring from the brake drum using the speciality return spring tool. The return spring tool looks like a pair of pliers and can be purchased at a car parts store.

    6

Remove the spring retainer clips using the clips speciality tool by holding the rear of the retaining pin down and inserting the specialty tool over top the front of the clip and turning the tool counter clockwise. The retainer clip specialty tool looks like a screwdriver and can be purchased at a car parts store.

    7

Hook up a line wrench onto the brake line connected to the rear drum and loosen the fitting to remove the line.

    8

Unscrew the bolts mounting the wheel cylinder so you can remove the wheel cylinder itself.

    9

Remove the wheel cylinder so you can remove the old brake shoes.

    10

Replace both the brake shoes and the wheel cylinder.

    11

    Reattach the brake lines.

    12

Reassemble the rear wheel brake drum system in reverse order.

    13

Adjust and test your new rear brakes. The new brake shoes should lightly contact the brake drum.

    14

Bleed the brake system to ensure that it is free of air and leaks.

The Biggest Modern Motoring Myth!

The biggest myth of all times is Engine/Body Grounding - even for new Peugeot 308 owners are still talking about "grounding" .

Could someone please tell me how the add-on colorful grounding wire with 12mm. sq. copper strands inside can improve grounding while there are already physically connected by massive conductor through out engine, chassis and body?

The add-on grounding is simply redundant!

What the use of additional Grounding then?

Improve sparks? Not quite. Sparks carry a few milliAmps only. The high potential electrons can jump across the gaps. Wire size doesnt matter. The conductance/conductivity is not an issue. In fact the HT lead insulator resistivity is MORE important than the x-section area through which the electrons flow - to prevent sparking occur other than at the spark-plug gaps.

BTW do you all aware how many amperes the current flow to the starter windings to start the engine? Now compare between the summation of all current used to run the other electrical system in the car and the current drawn from the battery during starting.

Saturn Passenger Door Glass Installation

While there are many uncomplicated Saturn repairs and part swap-outs you can do, door glass installation is not one of the easier ones. While the removal does not usually present too many problems, reinstallation can be challenging. Even body shop professionals who have done multiple Saturn door glass installations know to expect a challenge. You can align everything exactly as it is supposed to fit and still encounter problems because every piece of glass is slightly different and, therefore, adjusts differently. This difference can be tricky if you are not experienced.

Instructions

    1

Remove the window roller handle from the inside door panel. Grasp the towel with your hands about 4 inches apart, creating a taut edge. Slip the edge of the towel underneath the base of the handle and push it further under the base by working it back and forth. Maneuver the towel under the base until you reach the handle stem; then move the towel around the stem until you hear the spring clip at the base of the door pop loose.

    2
Remove the doors handle and latch.
Remove the doors handle and latch.

Use the Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the arm rest. Locate the screws at the bottom of the arm rest and unscrew them. Remove the doors interior handle in the same way, remembering to unhook the door lock clip just behind the handle. Take the interior door panel off. Use the straight slot screwdriver to unsnap the clips around the perimeter of the panel. Lay the panel aside.

    3

Peel off the protective plastic shield that is exposed when you remove the door interior panel and lay it aside with the sealant side up. Take the clip off the window roller and slip it back onto the stem. Roll the window down until you see the glass retainer bolts are accessible.

    4
Lift the window glass up over the frame of the door.
Lift the window glass up over the frame of the door.

Remove the bolts using the ratchet and lay them aside. Lift the new glass up over the outside of the door. Insert the glasss front corner, nearest the door hinges, into the glass slot at the top of the door. Set it firmly into the track at the bottom of the window where you rolled it.

    5

Pull up slightly on the window to settle it into the track so it is completely level. Push the window and its track down to align with the retainer bolt holes. Use the ratchet to reinstall the bolts into the retainer assembly. Use the roller to roll the window up and down, making sure it is fully functional and moving freely. Replace the parts you removed in the order you removed them.

Brake Bleeders and Engine Repair Tools

All those who use a vehicle are well aware how important it is to change the oil and fluids in the car at regular intervals. It is not so difficult to change the oil and lubrication of the entire vehicle but the problematic areas are the brakes usually. You have to take lot of precautions and then carefully perform everything. It is not only the question of disassembling or reassembling them but you have to regulate the brake fluid as well as keep air out of the brake lines. There is this vacuum necessary when you perform the work because if the air seeps out into the system, the brake might become sluggish and there is probability that it might fail also.

The brake bleeders simplify this process of changing the brake fluid and save you from getting into any other problem. These brake bleeders are not only easy to use but also are pretty inexpensive and you will get these without any difficulty. Even if you do not know much about mechanics, you can manage with the help of this kit. There is no need of any experience or mechanical expertise to use Brake Bleeders. Although the price is very reasonable, it is worth paying for it than taking the risk of doing the work on your own. It is always better to take precautions when it comes to the brakes of any vehicle.

If you are a new mechanic with little or no experience, you will require a lot of Engine Repair Tools. You would prefer and try to save some money on buying these tools and at the same time you would prefer to buy good quality and durable tools as well. If you are looking for both these things, try and follow precautionary guidelines and look for lifetime warranty before you buy.

How to Take the Brake Calipers off of a 2004 Cavalier

Sunday, April 26, 2015

General Motors best selling compact car in 2004 was the Chevrolet Cavalier. The car is great for commuting and fuel mileage getting nearly 37 mpg in the highway. The Cavalier came standard with the 2.2 liter four cylinder engine and was available with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The one feature this car lacked was standard ABS. Whether you had the optional ABS or not, maintaining the brake system was frequent as the front brake pads did not tend to last very long.

Instructions

    1

Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface. Set the parking brake. Place the wheel chocks around the rear wheels. Loosen the front lug nuts 1/4 turn. Lift the front of the vehicle. Place the jack stands under the frame and lower the vehicle. Remove the lug nuts and the front wheels.

    2

Loosen the two Allen-head bolts holding the caliper in place. Remove the caliper and hang if from the coil spring using the wire hanger. Remove the brake rotor. If the rotor is not loose install the lug nuts by hand. Strike the rotor between the lug nuts until the rotor comes loose. Remove the lug nuts and the rotor. Clean the hub mating surface well with the wire brush.

    3

Install the new rotor. Install one lug nut by hand to hold the rotor in place. Lubricate the caliper slides and the back sides of the brake pads with a thin layer of silicone brake grease. Install the brake pads to the new caliper by clipping them into place making sure that the pads sit flush with the caliper and with the sensors facing up. Install the new caliper and pads onto the vehicle. Torque the caliper bolts to 38 foot-pounds with the torque wrench.

    4

Remove the brake line from the old caliper by removing the retaining bolt and install it to the new caliper using new brass sealing rings on both sides of the brake line. Torque the brake line bolt to 37 foot-pounds. Fill the brake master cylinder with the DOT 3 brake fluid. Bleed the front brakes. Have an assistant sit in the vehicle. Instruct your assistant to push down the brake pedal and hold it. Open the caliper bleeder screw and close it immediately. Instruct your assistant to release the brake pedal. Repeat these steps until only a steady stream of fluid comes out of the bleeder screw, checking the brake fluid frequently. Torque the bleeder screws to 115 inch-pounds.

    5

Install the front wheels and torque the lug nuts to 100 foot-pounds. Lower the vehicle. Pump the brake pedal to make sure that you have good braking pressure.

Kisah tauladan yang menyayat hati

HARUS BACA…. Ambil iktibar..

"Abang, dah lama kita tak balik kampung macam ni ye?"

"Iyelah, maklumlah abang ni sibuk dengan urusan perniagaan. Baru kali ni

abang ada peluang untuk cuti panjang." Usin berkata kepada isterinya
tercinta.

Perjalanan daripada KL ke Tangkak mengambil masa lebih kurang empat jam.

Farah dan Adi dah pun terlelap kat kerusi belakang. Begitu juga dengan
isterinya, Liza.

"Tak sabar rasanya nak tiba kat kampung," Usin berkata dalam hati.

Sedikit demi sedikit Usin menekan minyak keretanya. Semakin lama
keretanya semakin laju dan Usin semakin seronok. Usin dah tak sabar
untuk segera sampai ke kampungnya. Pedal minyak ditekannya lagi dan
Honda Civicnya mula memecut.

Usin cilok kiri, cilok kanan. Habis semua kenderaan dipotongnya. Bangga
betul Usin masa tu. Terlupa dia sekejap pada anak dan isterinya yang
sedang tidur.

"Eh abang, kenapa bawa laju sangat ni?" tiba-tiba Liza terjaga dari
tidurnya.

"Tak ada apa la sayang, rileks...cepat sikit kita sampai kampung nanti."

"Sabar bang, sabar. Biar lambat tak apa....jangan laju sangat bang, Liza

takut.." Liza cuba memujuk Usin supaya memperlahankan kenderaannya.

"Rileks Liza.tak ada apa-apa," Usin terus memotong bas ekspres di
depannya tanpa was-was.

"Haaa..kan, tengok. Tak ada apa-apa kan?" kata Usin setelah berjaya
memotong bas ekspres tadi.

"Sudah la tu bang."

"Ha... tu ada satu lagi bas ekspres. Liza tengok abang motong dia
aaa...."

Usin terus masuk gear 3, pedal minyak ditekannya hingga jejak ke lantai.

Usin terus membelok ke kanan untuk memotong dan.... di depannya
tersergam sebuah lori balak yang besar dan gagah dan.....

BAAANGGG!!!

"Usin....bangun Sin," sayup-sayup terdengar suara emaknya. Usin membuka
matanya. Dia terlihat emaknya di situ.

"Mak, Usin di mana mak? Mana Liza mak? Macam mana dengan Liza mak?
Farah,
Adi.... mana anak-anak saya mak?" Bertubi-tubi Usin menyoal emaknya.
Usin
tak dapat menahan kesedihannya lagi. Usin menangis semahu-mahunya di
depan emaknya.

Emaknya memandang Usin tepat-tepat.

"Macamana dengan isteri Usin mak, Liza?" Usin masih terus menangis.

PANGGG!!!

Kepala Usin yang botak itu ditampar oleh emaknya dengan tiba-tiba. Usin
terdiam. Kenapa emaknya buat dia macam tu?

"Banyak la engkau punya isteri! Keja pun pemalas ada hati nak berbini.
Tu
la, tidur lagi senja-senja macam ni! Dah! Bangun pegi sembahyang!"
emaknya
terus merungut sambil berlalu keluar....

....Dan Usin tersengih keseorangan. Rasa macam nak masuk dalam tin
biskut!

Malu beb!!

Sekian

Moral : Pandulah dengan berhati-hati walaupun di dalam mimpi.. Ingatlah
orang tersayang...

Hi flow Air Filter an unbiased review

The factory fitted air filter was replaced with a Washable/Reusable High-Flow Filter (33-2936 similar to the one used on 175bhp Mini Cooper S) after the car had just clocked 50,000km even though according to the service schedule it was not due yet. I believed and was quite confident with the High-Flow filter because many tuners and car enthusiasts prefer this type of filter as well.

The main reason for me to choose this filter is because it comes with "one-million mile warranty" and it is designed/constructed to last forever - meaning I won`t have to spend money on the throw-away paper filters anymore. This filter still needs cleaning kit though, which comes with a spray cleaner and an aerosol oil.

For less than RM200 including shipping and handling cost, I got the filter within 10-working day (@ebay from the UK) and decided to install it by myself. The filter is pre-oiled and the installation was pretty easy as it is not as thick as the factory fitted filter.

Test run...
Honestly, I am not expecting huge performance gains and to tell the truth I noticed only a very slight improvement in acceleration and throttle_response at high engine rpm, which may be due to the new un-clogged filter. I can`t say exactly the actual gains but it is reasonable to estimate that there is only 2-4hp gain, which is theoretically what a typical high flow air filter would deliver - it is something that would not impress me with a "WOW!".

Overall, I am happy with the filter for some reasons. I hope everybody bought it for the right reason too.

Brake Repair Find Out Why You Should Make This a Priority

Driving a vehicle everyday helps make you more aware of anything that may be strange or out of order with it. For instance, if you notice that all of a sudden, your vehicle shakes when you drive or doesnt have the type of pick up youre familiar with, that will be a red flag that something is wrong. The same goes for your brakes. Odd sounds, difficulty stopping or even sensor lights on your dash could be a warning that your ability to stop your vehicle may be compromised. To keep you and your passengers safe, be sure to schedule time to bring your car in to a brake repair specialist. Explore a few common signs that you should talk with a pro immediately.

Cant Stop

How To Replace Brake Pads

This is one of the most obvious reasons to get your car checked out - the inability to stop. You may have noticed that what may have started out as a small issue, has probably evolved into something much bigger. If you are pressing the pedal down as hard as you can in order to bring your vehicle to a stop, youre in trouble. Thats because some of the most minor of accidents could have been prevented if people were able to stop their cars instantly. If the way your vehicle responds to stopping has changed significantly, its crucial to stop driving it and bring it in to a brake repair expert immediately.

Brake Repair - Find Out Why You Should Make This a Priority

Notice Strange Smells

The smell of smoke or something burning is not good, especially when it involves your vehicle. A car that is smoking means that there could be a host of problems brewing. Also, other strange smells could mean that you have brake fluid leaking, and it could be getting into your entire braking system, which may damage pads. A brake repair specialist can help pinpoint whats causing the issue so its necessary to allow an expert to look at your vehicle quickly to ensure safe operation of your car.

Odd Sounds

If you start your car one day, begin driving and notice an odd or strange noise, especially when trying to stop, its important to see a brake repair expert. It may be as minor as a squealing noise, which could be due to metal shavings used when creating the system or it could be something more. Also, sometimes, if its early in the morning and cold, or dew has set in, the brakes can squeak. Yet, this should go away after a few minutes. If it doesnt, something a bit more major could be wrong and a brake repair specialist may need to look at it. In addition, you may hear a more unusual sound, such as metal grinding against metal. If this is a problem that persists, you will need to stop driving your vehicle and schedule an appointment to have the car checked out. You could have bad padding, or a rotor that is cracked or warped. When you have cracks or warping in the rotor, this can cause noise and necessitates a replacement.

What Are Car Brake Calipers

The brakes are integral to a car. In fact they serve a very essential purpose for the car. Every part of the brake system is important and the calipers are one of the most important devices in the system. They are the ones who apply the necessary force to slow down the car or to completely stop it. They should always be in good condition and repairing worn out ones are essential for good driving. You would not want to drive with inefficient calipers.

The calipers serve a very big role in the brake system. These small, box-like, rectangular devices are contained in the wheel housing. They are set near the rotary metal disk that is connected to the wheels. They function through a hydraulic system and the brake fluids transfer the pressure needed to move the calipers. In a standard brake caliper, there are metal pipes that are found on the interior and exterior of the rotor. The plates have brake pads and these make the physical contact for the calipers and rotors. When the pedal is pressed, the brake fluid goes through a master cylinder and it is linked on the piston that houses the calipers. The piston presses the pads and the pads are forced to the rotors. The result is the car will start slowing down.

These disk brakes became commercial in the automobile industry around the 1950s, they are great improvements over the drum brakes which could easily overheat and deteriorate in performance in a very short period of time. Almost all cars use the disc brakes but some use the drum brakes on the rear axle.

What Are Car Brake Calipers?

The floating calipers utilize hydraulic piston along the rotor inboard side. These move in and out when the pedal is pressed. The fixed calipers have pistons that are set on both the sides of the rotor and the pressure is applied directly from the 2 sides making the operation much smoother.

The pads usually wear down because of the constant friction and so it is essential to check the pads whenever they are starting to make noise. The brake system should always be checked for wear and tear all the time for safe driving.

So Ive google to search what kind of battery it use. Then found it, CR2016 is the battery type. Bought the battery for RM 8.00. Hopefully it will last for another 10 years. Why ten years? Because g-shock engineers developed this watch to:-
1-will last for 10 years
2-can be drop at 10 meters (or feets which Ive forgot)
3-withstand 10 meters (or feets which Ive forgot)

First thing is removed the four screws.

Night Riders be Prepared

I prefer to drive after midnight for non-stop long distance journeys - just like inter-continental flights from KLIA.
Reasons for a Long-Distance Night Rider
Usually I go to bed as early as 9:30pm and wake up around 2:00 - 3:00am and sleep again around midday during lunch hours w/o taking any meal because I normally take brunch at 10:00am and dinner around 5:00pm.

Danger for Night Riders!
Surely, there are fewer vehicles on the road after midnight but ironically it is the riskiest time for driving. There are many factors which increase the risk of "after midnight driving".
  • Most people on the road are likely to be tired and sleepy.
  • Headlight beam from incoming vehicles causing a nuisance to other road users which can leave them blind or black-out for up to a few seconds. The lights of vehicles cucuk from behind also can cause glare.
  • Cows, water buffalo and other night-active animals camouflage in the darkness, may appear suddenly on the road out of nowhere and too late for the driver to respond in time.
  • Heavy vehicles such as lorries, trucks, buses are driven by Night Riders
Night Riders be Prepared for Yourselves FIRST...
If you are going to be driving at night, no matter what your age, it is vitally important that you are prepared. If you end up making an unexpected trip in the dark and find yourself tired, its essential that you pull over and rest in a safe place so that you are not a danger to yourself or others on the road. Remember, tired driving is as dangerous as drunk driving because your reaction time can be equally affected, plus you run the risk of falling asleep at the wheel.

Other things that you can do to make your night time trips as safe as possible.
  • Make sure that you see your eye doctor regularly for eye exams. (At least once every two years, more often if you have certain conditions. Diabetics should see their eye doctor every year.) This way any problems with night vision can be noted and dealt with. I take green tea or teh o without sugar...
  • Dont forget your vitamins. Vitamin A deficiency causes a condition called night blindness which can make it difficult or impossible to drive safely at night. I drink carrot susu...

Prepare Your Car
There are several things that you should do to get your car ready for safe night driving. This includes making it easier for you to see where you are going as well as easier for others to see where you are without causing nuisance to other road users.
Click for what Ive done to Light Bulbs and Day Running Lights [DRL].
  • Make sure that your head-lights and tail-lights are all working properly. The head-light covers must be clean whenever you head out on a nighttime trip, especially when theres bad weather like rain, mist or fog. Your headlights should also be properly aimed so that they are focused and directed correctly. Click HERE.
  • Make sure that your windshield are clean so that there is no glare or obstructed vision.
  • Adjust your outside mirrors so that they are in the right place; the body of your car should be just outside of the vision of the mirrors. Your rear and side mirrors should also be adjusted so that the glare from the headlights behind you is not a problem - our 308T rear view mirror has anti-glare feature though.

While on the road
  • Night vision can be affected before the sun even goes down, so to make sure that your eyes stay sensitive.
  • Make sure that you are looking from side to side so that your eyes stay sensitive to the darkness.
  • Do not look at oncoming headlights while driving, it can leave you blind for as much as five full seconds.
  • Make sure that you use the right/legal color temperature [ Legal color temperature is 4300K ~ 4700K] and set your light beams correctly.
  • If you are driving in the fog, use your low beams or/and fog-lights only because the high beams will not allow you to see well due to direct reflections. Make sure that you dont use your high beams if traffic is coming toward you either, and hopefully oncoming traffic will afford you the same courtesy.
  • If you find yourself staring at the white line or other fixed object for too long, you may succumb to ‘highway hypnosis,’ which will decrease your reaction time.
  • If you are driving through forest such as from Kuala Lipis to Gua Musang, use your peripheral vision to watch for animals on the sides of the road. Often times, you wont see the animal themselves, but their eyes reflecting the headlights of passing cars. If you have any passengers in your vehicle, ask them to keep watch so you can focus your attention on your driving.
  • Continually evaluate your night-time driving skills, so that you are not endangering yourself and others. Sadly, night vision tends to worsen with age, so at some point you may need to limit your night-time driving.
Night time driving can be full of unpleasant surprises, so always expect the unexpected. Make sure youre alert at all times and ready for any emergency situation that could possibly crop up. Above all else, if at any point you feel like youre not seeing clearly, find a safe spot to pull over. And if you cant remedy the situation, just wait for daylight. Its much better to arrive a little later than planned, than to risk your safety and everyone else.

Nevertheless, the advantage after midnight is smooth high-speed driving - most of the time on Auto-Cruise is possible. Also less wear & tear on brake-pads/disk, tyres, air-cond system, etc... and of course less consumption on fuel.

I will be on another inter-continental night trip soon.
Till then, so loooongggg!!!

Happy Motoring

1157 LED for DRL

Thursday, April 23, 2015

If any of you guys want to replace existing Day Running Lights (DRL) 1157 tungsten-filamen bulbs on your Peugeot 308 turbo with anything similar to THESE LEDs ... forget it. Dont waste your time and money. Do not buy!

1157 LED conversion light bulbs similar to THESE are not durable to be used as DRL on your Peugeot 308 Turbos.

So far I had tested SIX different sets of 1157 LEDs... ... and ALL of them kaput with at least one LED burned within one week of usage! I even assembled em by myself. Click HERE to see how I did. Probably those LEDs can be used at full brightness for short duration such as turn-indicator and brake lights only - not for extended use like the DRLs. Special LEDs and electronic circuitry are required for extended use at full brightness. It was very difficult and expensive to buy aftermarket Audi-like LED DRL before y2010.

Fortunately, as a result of European Union Directive coming into force on the Feb 7th 2011 all new passenger cars and small delivery vans throughout the EU will have to come equipped with daytime running lights. Since then, the right LED arrays for DRLs could be found easily at reasonable price.

Click HERE to find which one is suitable for you. I prefer W212-like LED arrays. By installing them upside down, the LED arrays match and flow with the curves on the front part of the 308...

These new DRL LED arrays are a lot brighter than the super bright 1157 LEDs.

What Kind of Impact Would Shatter a Rear Windshield

What Kind of Impact Would Shatter a Rear Windshield?

The rear windshield glass is tempered to increase protection for people in the vehicle. Tempering the glass makes it about five to 10 times stronger than normal glass, meaning it can withstand impact and extreme temperatures.

Tempered

The process of tempering reheats the glass to a temperature where it reaches a near-liquid state. The glass is then cooled and compresses, increasing its strength against impact.

Compression

In order to shatter tempered glass, the impact would have to overcome the compression of the glass. When tempered glass is broken, the breakage pattern, also known as dicing, results in tiny pieces of glass rather than large shards, which could do considerably more damage to the individuals within the car.

Causes

Some common causes of glass shatter includes acts of vandalism, when the windshield is smashed with blunt objects such as a baseball bat; rocks or other debris kicked up by other vehicles, especially on highways; and fallen tree branches.

When Is It Time For Brake Repair

The brakes are probably the most important part of your car. Can you imagine what youd do without them? Actually, its probably not a good idea to imagine that. Instead, lets look at some ways to keep them running just right so they dont leave you rolling down a hill somewhere. The good thing is that theyll let you know way before they wear out completely. Here are the signs that you need brake repair.

No Grabbing!

How To Replace Brake Pads

When you step on the brakes, it should be a smooth stopping motion. They apply the same pressure to both the front and back axles. However, if you step on the pedal and your car lurches to a stop, this is a sign that somethings wrong. One of the main warning signs that you need brake repair is when the brakes are "grabbing," giving you an uneven feeling when you stop the car. It means that the pads have worn thin, or it could be that they were installed incorrectly in the first place. There can be other causes, but this is a simple thing for a trained mechanic to fix.

When Is It Time For Brake Repair?

Screechy Sounds

Basically, your brakes shouldnt make any noise at all when you apply them. If you hear a screeching sound every time you stop, this could be a sign that you need brake repair. That is, it "could" be a sign because its not 100% certain that theyve gone bad. What it often means is that youve got metal against metal causing the screeching noise. This means that the pads have worn out and youll need to get them replaced. It also might not be a problem. Some new cars have squeaky brakes until theyre driven for a while. If you hear some screechy sounds, its a good idea just to have them checked out.

Wheel Wiggling

Another sign is that your steering wheel wiggles when you apply the brakes. What effect do the brakes have on your steeling wheel? A wiggly wheel is usually a sign that your rotors are bad. The rotors are the big discs that your brakes clamp onto when you step on the pedal. As you can imagine, its just as important for them to work properly as the brakes themselves. If youve got this problem, the rotors probably need to be replaced. You can have them tuned up, but this will only temporarily solve the problem.

Visual Inspection

You can tell you need brake repair by the feel and sound, but you can also look at them yourself and see if they need to be fixed. When looking at them, the pads should be about a quarter of an inch away from the rotor. If theyre too close or too far, you might want to have them looked at by a mechanic. It may just take a simple bit of tweaking to get them fixed.

Brake repair is a really important part of driving a car. Luckily, the brakes will give you plenty of warning signs before they go out and leave you cruising down the highway with no way to stop. Pay attention to these warning signs, get them fixed when you need to, and youve got nothing to worry about regarding your cars ability to stop itself when it needs to.

How to Install a 1953 Ford Pickup Windshield

When installing the new windshield in your 1953 Ford Pickup, you should have someone on hand to help insert the windshield into the vehicle. You can pick up the tools and components you will need for the job from your local auto parts store.

Instructions

    1

Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove one of the two mounting screws on the base of the rear-view wing mirror. Slide the wing mirror off its base. Repeat the process on the second wing mirror. This will give you best access to the windshield.

    2

Cut the rubber seal around the edges of the windshield, from inside the truck, with a sharp blade. Pull the rubber seal away with your hand. Carefully push the windshield out of the frame. Have someone on hand outside the vehicle to help lift the windshield off the truck.

    3

Attach the new gasket on to the windshield so that the heavy part of the gasket is on the inside of the windshield and the slit on the outside.

    4

Insert a nylon cord around the outer groove of the windshield. This will allow you to pull the gasket to the inner side of the windshield once the windshield is in place.

    5

Lift the windshield in to place in the frame. Have someone on hand to help lift the windshield in to place. Make sure that the end of the cord is inside the frame.

    6

Pull the nylon cord from the inside of the vehicle to work the rubber lip to the inside of the frame.

Do All Peugeot 308 Have Negative Camber

Wednesday, April 22, 2015

What is Camber?
The camber is the angle, measured in degrees, between the center line of the wheel and the perpendicular to the ground, looking from the front.

What is Negative Camber ?
Negative camber is when the top of the wheel leans inwards. Extreme Negative Cambers are very common on racing cars in the 60s...
.. at which time I was still running naked racing old bicycle rims with cousins as depicted by Lat in "the Kampong Boy" .

Why Negative Camber?
According to my old school book negative camber improves grip for the outside tire on which most of the loads are concentrated when cornering.

The tyre tends to roll on itself while cornering. If non-negative camber, the inside edge of the contact patch would begin to lift off and reduce the area of the contact patch.
Negative camber reduces this effect and optimising the contact patch area hence the grip. However, negative camber is no good for straight-line performance because the maximum traction is achieved if the tyre tread is flat on the road i.e when the camber angle is zero. Negative Camber also makes inside tyre tread wear out faster hence tyres are forced to retire earlier than expected...

I love Negative Camber because most of the roads I drive on need it....

How do I know myPeugeot 308 has Negative Camber?
By looking at the tyres when they are almost retired...
CSC3 at 40-thousand km vs unused spare tyre.

At 40-thousand km, I thought the tyres on myPeugeot 308 would last for at least another 10-thousand km because the remaining outside tread was still 2mm above wear indicator.
Note: average tread consumption is around 1mm/5000km.However, when the tyres were taken out for routine DIY inspection, to my surprise the inside tread on all four tyres had gone. Botak licin you....!!!So, these are the inferences/evidence that Peugeot 308 has Negative Cambers on all wheels!. Whereas myPeugeot 206 and myPeugeot 405s have no camber angle at all on rear wheels hence the tyres on them worn out evenly ever since.
Wtyres
BTW, Ive already replaced all the tyres on myPeugeot 308 at 40-thousand km.

CSC3 tires feature an asymmetric design with solid tread blocks and a continuous rib on the outboard shoulder to improve responsiveness and cornering stability, while continuous intermediate ribs provide constant rubber-to-road contact to reduce noise and control the longitudinal forces experienced when braking. The continuous circumferential tread grooves help disperse water to resist hydroplaning and their asymmetrically angled walls further stabilize the tread ribs, increasing steering precision and reducing deformation while cornering. The notched shoulder blocks on the inboard portion enhance wet weather traction. The tires structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by nylon to stabilize the tread area and enhance handling as well as high-speed capability.

GOODYEAR - Eagle F1 Asymmetrical

The Eagle F1 Asymmetric is developed for high performance cars. The asymmetric in the name describes both the tires tread design and internal structure, both of which are designed to enhance performance in dry and wet conditions.

The tread uses Goodyears Racing Compound Technology to combine carbon black for dry traction, silica for wet traction and a new generation of polymers to optimize tread stiffness. This compound is to increase cornering traction while a continuous center rib improves high speed stability and an open inboard tread pattern disperses water. Wide circumferential grooves also allow water to flow from between the tire footprint and road. The internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced with three layers of cord to enhance tread stability and high-speed capability.

GM Chrysler Merger Would Hurt State Budget

Tuesday, April 21, 2015

The automotive industry has been smoldered by different types of scorching pandemonium in the past six years - plant closures, job cuts, ailing automakers reputation and vanishing confidences. Moreover, the states famished financial system is expected to be significantly hurt by the predicted GM-Chrysler merger.

State officials also expect that job losses and plant closures would continue to increase. This could trigger the decline in income and property tax collectibles and business tax revenues. "Clearly, its going to have a negative impact losing all those high-paying jobs," said state Treasurer Robert Kleine. "Without doing a study, its difficult to say how much."

How To Replace Brake Pads

Michigan is battling with an 0-million-plus deficit this year. The said figure could eventually drill a bigger hole in the states budget for 2008. Kleine said that there is little the state can do to head off a merger. "Theres not too much we can do about the business decisions of private companies," he said. Kleine added that there has been some talk about setting up special funds for displaced workers who need retraining or who want to start new businesses should there be layoffs or buyouts.

GM-Chrysler Merger Would Hurt State Budget

James Epolito, the chief executive officer of the Michigan Economic Development Corp. (MEDC), said the state has not been privy to any GM-Chrysler merger talks. "We have not been in any direct discussions of one joining the other," he said. "From my standpoint, its speculation at this point. Everything is on the table and everything is a possibility."

Epolito said the MEDC is in contact with the auto companies weekly about their business decisions. So if merger talks "were to become more than speculation," Epolito said, "it would make the MEDC uniquely suited to deal with any consolidation of assets" in Michigan.

Michigans unemployment rate 7.1 percent and it is well above the U.S. average of 4.6 percent. And additional job cuts would greatly injure the economy of the land. The situation is not as simple as losing in a few deals of EBC brake pads - it is totally graver.

Still, there are analysts who consider the coupling of the largest automaker and Chrysler Group as next to impossible. "Anythings possible, but this one seems unlikely," said John Casesa, a longtime auto analyst and managing partner of New York-based Casesa Strategic Advisors LLC pertaining to the GM-Chrysler possible merger. "It would increase exponentially the challenges GM faces in turning around the company. These two companies have an immense amount of overlap in people, plants, dealers and products, and therell be very considerable cost in working through all that."

"Theyre not far along enough, in my assessment, to take on something as gigantic as absorbing Chrysler," said Gerald Meyers, a business professor at the University of Michigan and former chairman of the AMC automaker previously acquired by Chrysler.

Wall Street analysts are also skeptical whether the deal is smart for GM to take. "GM already has too many brands that cannibalize each other," added analyst Brad Rubin at investment firm BNP-Paribas. "If you add three more, theres going to be more cannibalization."

How to Replace the Brakes on an Acura 2003 RSX

The brakes on your 2003 Acura RSX are disc brakes. Acura decided to use caliper-and-disc style brakes for all four wheels. This means that all four brakes are changed essentially the same way. The rear brakes have an emergency-brake cable, but thats the only difference. Youll need to replace your brakes when the pad material is around one-eighth of an inch or less. Replacement brakes can be purchased from most auto-parts stores.

Instructions

    1

Jack up the front and rear of your RSX using a floor jack. Start with the front. Make sure you are jacking on the factory jack points located behind the radiator and behind the trunk. Place a jack stand under each of the front and rear pinch-weld supports under the vehicle and lower the RSX onto the stands.

    2

Unbolt the lug nuts on the wheels using an impact wrench. Then, pull the wheels off of the wheel-hub assemblies.

    3

Wrap the C-clamp around the brake caliper so that the screw end of the clamp sits flush against the outboard brake pad. Then, tighten the clamp to compress the caliper piston.

    4

Remove the clamp when you can no longer tighten it, and unbolt the upper and lower caliper-mounting bolts and pull the caliper off the brake rotor.

    5

Have an assistant hold the brake-caliper assembly. Do not let it hang by the rubber brake hose.

    6

Unscrew the two screws in the center of the brake rotor using a screwdriver. Most vehicles dont use mounting screws on their brake rotors. Honda, which makes Acura vehicles, does. It will be impossible to remove the rotor if you dont remove these screws.

    7

Slide the rotor off and slide the new rotor on. Installation is the reverse of removal.

    8

Remove the old brake pads and insert the new pads into the caliper assembly.

    9

Mount the brake caliper and tighten the caliper-mounting bolts to 53 ft-lbs. with a torque wrench. The rest of the installation is the reverse of removal.

    10

Repeat steps 2 through 9 for the rest of the brakes. When replacing the rear brakes, the only change in procedure is that you will need to remove the emergency-brake spring from the caliper with a pair of pliers before removing the caliper-mounting bolts.

Wot izit for

A reader sent uncle.D an email asking...
"...could you kindly have a look at the picture i sent to you. I noticed there is some missing screw or part (blue circled). Im just guessing here. If your 308 also having that, its nothing then..."
It is going to be another big issue if AW forumers know there is something missing. Probably someone will start a new thread encouraging 308 owners to storm Nassim HQ demanding for the missing part..... he heeee!!

Well, here it is. Guess for yourselves what is it for.
If u ppl found it is not there, try to search here lak
It is a multi-purpose lug - can be used for lifting the engine, towing the car and can also be used as a weapon if know how. The red ribbon is to remind the lug should be removed after use.

How to Replace Discs on a Ford Escape

How to Replace Discs on a Ford Escape

The brake discs on a Ford Escape are just one component in the braking system, but one of the most important. Its the brake disc which turns with the wheel, and is also the object that is clamped onto by the brake pads to slow the vehicle. When you change the brake pads, you also want to change or turn the brake discs (also known as rotors) so that you can maximize the contact points. In this case, the project vehicle is a 2005 Ford Escape, but the process is similar for other vehicles as well.

Instructions

    1

Use the jack to lift up the front of the vehicle, then set it on the jack stands. Be sure that the vehicle is completely and solidly on the stands prior to working on the vehicle. Take off the front wheels using the tire iron and set them out of the workspace.

    2

Unbolt the brake caliper anchor plate from the front suspension using the ratchet, then lift the caliper and anchor plate off of the front suspension. Support the caliper on a spare jack stand or any other solid object, as long as it isnt hanging from the brake line, which could damage the line.

    3

Use the wire cutters to remove the brake disc retaining clips located on the wheel lugs. These do not need to be reinstalled, so its OK if you cut them completely off of the disc and discard them. Slide the brake disc off of the hub.

    4

Slide the replacement brake disc onto the hub. Then attach the brake caliper anchor plate to the front suspension using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket.

    5

Reinstall the wheels and tires using the tire iron, then lower the SUV off of the stands using the jack.

How to Replace the Rear Brake Rotors in a 1994 Toyota Celica

How to Replace the Rear Brake Rotors in a 1994 Toyota Celica

The rear brakes on a 1994 Toyota Celica do just a small percentage of the braking in the car, but over time, the rear brakes wear down just as fast as the front. With rear disc brakes, this means getting the stock rotors turned, or replacing them. If your rear rotors have already been turned once, chances are good that youll need to replace them first, which should take about 30 minutes a side.

Instructions

    1

Raise the rear of the Celica using the jack and set the car down onto the jack stands. Take off the back wheels with the tire iron.

    2

Unbolt the brake caliper from the rear suspension using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, then hang the caliper from the rear spring using the bungee cord. Install the two 8mm bolts into the threaded holes on the face of the rotor. Tighten them in place with the ratchet until the rotor pops off of the hub. Pull the rotor off with both hands.

    3

Slide the replacement rotor onto the wheel hub using your hands, then install two lug nuts using your hands to keep the rotor on the hub. Install the brake caliper onto the rotor with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket.

    4

Remove the wheel lugs with your hands, then reinstall the rear tires using the tire iron. Lower the Celica off the stands with the jack.
